Design tip – DRAW MORE!

(Thanks Graphiclove.nl for providing this awesome drawing!)
Today we want to bring up the fact that a lot of people just go straight to the computer and start messing around with graphics. This is not a bad approach in any case, but it is also very limiting! How could it be limiting? how can a pencil and paper be a better way of getting your message across than a computer? Nurbs at Work are you CRAZZZZZZY???? Maybe, well read on to find out more.

When one draws, they have a lot of what we would like to call “MAGIC”. What is this MAGIC? Well basically it’s freedom. The freedom to do anything you want, be as creative you want. And it is proven that a computer can be more restrictivein the idea phase. It is just much easier aswell since you do not need a laptop/desktop to sketch out your ideas. So you could be just walking in the park and BOOM, something hits you. You find out it is a big red frisbee, but after you get up off the ground you get this awesome idea for a game/program or even a musical… The best thing to do is try to get as many details down on your pad with a pen/pencil as possible.
Let’s say you are going to develop a character or a website. It is 10x faster and easier to just grab a pen and pencil and just doodle on the page until you have something worth producing. If you go ahead, skipping this stage and head to the computer. You will already mess around with forms and shapes or even colors to a point where you do not want to change them, because you have already spent a lot of time on it. This is where the paper is just golden. (Well actually it is just white…unless u spilled coffee on it or something). Just crump it up and throw it away and you can start over until your idea is really GOOD!
After your idea is good, you then throw it in the computer, since even you have a solid idea of what you want to create by this time. This way you will improve your drawing skills as well, and it is just best practice. Everyone will look at you in a better light if you tell them you are a professional artist and you know how to draw. Next time you say to them that you are a professional artist/designer, they might actually believe you this time.
All we are asking you is to try the above mentioned method. Just give it a shot and see if it is better than the old way you were doing things. If you suddenly realize you are producing better work, thank us and keep using this method, ofcourse.
